EMERGENCY CARE ASSISTANT
Our Emergency Care Assistants assist Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians in the care and treatment of both emergency and non-emergency patients. The minimum level of training is outlined in the table below.
Ambulance Aid Training This 4 to 6 week course covers both the theory and practical skills of Ambulance Aid.1 The training is followed by a period of ongoing work based assessment and continuing professional development. 1 as per the IHCD Ambulance Service Basic Training Manual | The course is formally assessed by both written and practical examinations. Successful completion of the course indicates competency in the following areas: - scene safety and management; - conflict management - infection control; - major incident procedures; - post-incident procedures; - triage; - patient and incident documentation; - moving and handling techniques; - safe use of ambulance equipment; - patient extrication and stabilisation; - administration of entonox; - advanced airway management; - use of suction; - pulse oximetery; - oxygen therapy; - adult, child and infant resuscitation; - automated external defibrillation (AED); - 3-lead ECG acquisition and interpretation; - recognition and ongoing care of medical emergencies; - maternity and childbirth; - measurement of blood glucose levels; - administration of glucogel; - measurement of blood pressure. |
